I have heard lots about the Chinese red packet and the red envelope. Are these linked to some? I have heard lots about the Chinese red packet and the red envelope. Are these linked to some Chinese tradition or ceremony? James B replied: "The Chinese red packet and the red envelope are a part of China’s tradition and heritage. As far as my knowledge goes, I think these might be associated to a traditional Chinese wedding. Why don’t you refer to the internet to confirm your doubts and know more about it." What should be done with the red envelopes and money received on Chinese New Year? Should the money be kept in the envelope, can I place the envelope somewhere in my home or work for good luck? Suggestions please PJ replied: "Throw away the money and spend the envelope!"
starlove2 replied: "I usually don't leave the money in the envelope after the first day. I spend it :D
As for the envelopes, some people throw it out. I used them to decorate my workdesk. I don't know if it brings luck or not, but they look pretty there."
Ashley Miami replied: "What i do is save it or go shopping with it if you love shopping you love having a shopping spree with the money you got ion chinese new year"
D.K.D.P.T. replied: "Keep the envelope. Give it to someone else next year if it's in good conditon. Same goes with the money... I guess." How many red envelopes did you sent to President Obama? (Red Envelope Project)? Did you participate in the red envelope project. Just copy and paste this link:
Our school just sent over 400 red envelopes to Obama. Stop the horrible agenda Obama has in mind.
Remember to write on the back of the red envelope:
"This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility begins with conception."
Also remember to not put anything in the envelope.
So how many did you send to Obama/your local politician/your senators?
Respect for human life, please!!! Shaddup Libs replied: "I'm curious as to what 'school' would allow such a stomping on a steadfast liberal pillar."
ms wheedler replied: "I'd save the envelope and the 42 cents, and with that money, I'd buy formula and donate it to the food pantry. There are many hungery babies in your community who would benefit more. Get your class in on it and you can do some good."
Orion replied: "I think that this is cool and all and I would maybe do it just be a thorn in the side, but you do realize that many other Presidents have not made federal laws banning abortion, right? If one were to do so, that would be treading in some seriously deep waters as it would lead us just that much closer to the fascist nation that we all fear Obama leading us to. I really think that the federal government can stop making federal laws and leave this up to your state. Harass them about it!"
LasVegasPasses.com replied: "I'm fascinated.. Please, tell me that this was a public school, using public funds for this "activism".
An interesting note; when crime began to decline at an incredible rate in the late 80's and early 90's, it was at exactly the time when the ages of the unwanted children would have been entering their "prime crime" years after the R-v-W decision was passed down.
If you want to change something, if you want to stop an abortion from happening? First; never get into a situation where you would cause one to be necessary. I've known several on the high end moral side who ended up having one.. or being a father of one who was. Second, support adoption groups & educate others on birth control.
"Responsibility" begins before conception occurs, assuring it does NOT occur, if it is not desired to. That's the whole point.
Be part of the solution, don't just whine about a problem that pre-exists, and has for as long as society has."
To Be Mrs. Ellison replied: "Im sending 8. I couldnt find red envelopes anywhere! i had to buy a package of thank-you cards that came with red envelopes and they were rather expensive.
But I think this is great.
Props to your school for sending 400+
Ive told all my friends...emailed...texted...
MAIL DAY IS TOMMOROW!!!!!"
Redeemed replied: "I actually agree with ms wheedler. A lot of money is going into this project that probably won't have too much of an effect on Obama. It will certainly get some people thinking, especially the postmasters who will be handling all the envelopes, but in the long run not too much will happen. Now, I am doing five envelopes but only because someone gave them to me so I didn't have to buy them. If it had been up to me I would have spent money on helping people who could be effected by a simple food donation.
FYI, this all comes from a pastor's daughter. I am certainly pro-life and think that all that people are doing for this cause is incredible, but I tend to have some "real life" opinions."
Tinika replied: "Yes, my church participated and we bought 1000 envelopes. I hope this causes our president to fall on his face in prayer, and repent for allowing innocent babies to be murdered."
quarter horses replied: "Hey THATS great i send envelopes too! Maybe just maybe we can change his mind! I wonder if he ever thinks about him being that baby and never getting a chance at life... no president... no family..... no nothing! He should think about that and what he's doing! RED ENVELOPES IF YOU SEND THEM YOUR MAKING A DIFFERENCE!"
truthinfreedom replied: "My church sent at least 200 red envelopes to President Obama. I personally sent 15 red envelopes, mostly on behalf of people who didn't think they had the time or the money to do so themselves but who still wanted to participate. I was told to put the message: "This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion. It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world." Despite the difference between the two statements, I think Obama will get the picture that there is moral outrage against his pro-abortion stance. I have also encouraged other congregations to get involved. Perhaps Obama will just toss the envelopes. I don't know. But we still need to speak up on behalf of those who are not able to speak for themselves. If we don't speak out against the atrocity of the abortion holocaust, we are just as guilty as abortionists. I believe we should peacefully protest this violence against the most helpless members of our society. We need to speak out against the murder of these people who have such great potential. Who knows? Victims of abortion might even have been great artists, musicians, authors, relief workers, teachers, scientists, inventors, etc. As for the argument that those who would have come of age in the late eighties and early nineties if they hadn't been aborted, they wouldn't have to have been criminals. Their parents could have prevented them from that sort of life by raising them in a loving, caring way, etc. These aborted people could have had wonderful potential; but they were denied the basic rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Except in the case of rape or incest, also the parents could have waited until they were ready to have children and raise them in a safe, healthy, loving home environment. In the case of rape or incest, I know the woman is not at fault; but neither is the child. Why do we make the children pay such a horrible price for what their parents do or what happens to their mother? Every person who is conceived has the God-given right to live life to the fullest."
Geoff P replied: "You who are suggesting that others should have donated their .42 to buy some baby formula instead of sending a red envelope are missing the visual-learning, attention-grabbing point. Without going into a lesson on the power of symbolism and obedience, I'll just remind you of when Judas objected to Mary [Martha's sister] pouring all that expensive perfume on Jesus. Watching the woman do it, Judas commented, "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages."" Did anyone else receive an empty red envelope about Barack Obama and abortion? My republican parents already sent this letter to the President Obama so I've forgotten what the red envelope said but it said had a pro-life (against abortion) message on it like this: "This envelope is EMPTY and represents the LIFE of one child that wasn't born because it didn't have the chance to LIVE."
I don't know how my parents acquired these, but I was wondering if any of you got them. Oh and---
Are you: pro-life........ OR ........pro-choice?
Violet, I'm actually communist...far far far from being republican. AlyssaAddiction replied: "not i.
pro-life most of the time.
there are exceptions though..
like if its harming the mother or baby."
Marie W replied: "Nope...
pro choice..."
Violet replied: "Ewww you're a Republica'nt"
OPC(no sleep till brooklyn) replied: "well that makes sense your filling somebodies box with something they don't want and their just going to throw it away isn't that what an abortion is and i'm pro choice and before all the christans go off on me read the bible "kill them all man woman child and suckling""
Kaitlyn R replied: "very PRO-LIFE.
no my family did not recieve a letter."
Whitney_A_Hitler replied: "We have not gotten one.
In my heart I am Pro-life........ In my mind I am ........Pro-choice.
You know yahoo keeps saying this question was deleted, but it's not, wth yahoo??"
Tectonic French Toast (w/syrup) replied: "Typical. Kill a whole forest to make a statement about unborn babies.
Well, given the fact that they don't give a crap about our environment, it's funny that they care so much about these unborn children who would eventually have no place to live once the Earth goes to sh**."
pinkdotheart replied: "no i didn't.
i'm pro- choice! and proud of it!" How use new year red envelopes ? Chinese New Year ,I loved getting the red envelopes with money in them. This new year I receive the red envelopes I want to use for to buy the Louis Vuitton Replica Handbags, but did not know that which good websites has, you have any good website ? John N replied: "ebay.com"
Bin B replied: "When I was a kid, Chinese New Year was a bigger deal in my family than Christmas, and I loved getting the red envelopes with money in them. One year, I remember scoring as much as $52.00.
you can keep the red envelopes ,if you want to buy handbag, you can try, i think quality very good, the price is also reasonable!" Chinese wedding- what do I collect the red envelopes in/on? Im getting married, and my fiance is chinese. Now the wedding will be asian themed...but not Traditional in any sense of the word.
Ive been informed to expect red envelopes...what is the traditional way to accept them. Do they hang them on something? babyg replied: "YOu should ask your in-law about...
collect red envelopes is like having tea ceremony with your parents and at his parents house at different time.
YOu should do some research.
I am chinese and i had the tea ceremony with my parents and with they my husband doesn't matter side either
but your parents not chinese they do not have to give you red envelopes they can give you gift.
Go get some detail and talk to your in-laws about it and you fiance
and sometime you get money for as gift at the reception at the wedding when they wedding card. then gift."
bluegirl6 replied: "I am not sure. I always thought it was a private ceremony with family. Maybe you should try researching it on the net. Wikepedia or just google it. That should have the answers for you then you can plan accordingly."
Christina V replied: "i would ask someone familiar with that custom :P but on the gilmore girls, they collected the envelopes by the mother holding the bag :P"
rolex_lexus_guy replied: "First, Congratulations on your wedding.
Traditionally, the red envelope is given as a good luck for the newly wed couple. Recently, more and more couples are paying for their own wedding and banquet, so the red envelope is given as a small gesture to help the couple with paying for the banquet and wedding. Even within chinese couples, the tradition of how the envelope is collected is different. Some like to have a sign in desk in the entrance of the banquet where people can drop off their gifts and red envelopes. Some like to walk around to every table and toast the guest, as a personal thank you to each and everyone attending the wedding. It all depends on your new husband's family tradition."
tangshengyee replied: "First of all CONGRATULATIONS on your wedding! If your wedding will not be traditional, then I would say don't worry too much. Like others have mentioned above, you should probably ask your fiance what to do with the red envelopes, because he would probably know or be able to ask someone in his family.
You DO NOT hang them on something -- these are just red envelopes with money in them. I wouldn't really suggest putting them in a box in case something happens to the box.
Given that your fiance is the Chinese one, you probably won't be the one receiving the red envelope; it will probably be your fiance. Relatives will come up and shake his hand and give it to him -- they probably don't want to be putting the money in a box either. Most Chinese that I know give cash, as the amount of the cash sometimes is symbolic too.
In either case, my fiance and I have already designated someone to be our "money holder" for cash gifts that we will be receiving at our wedding. Sometimes this duty falls to the best man or maid of honor. Pick someone you really trust who won't be as busy as some others and every time you or your fiance gets something, give it to that person for safekeeping.
If you do receive them, just take it with both hands and thank the giver wholeheartedly. Just a last thought, if your wedding is not that traditional, then you might not be receiving as many of these red envelopes as you thought, so I wouldn't worry too much about this." Hong Kong Style Weddings & the Red Envelopes? For Hong Kong style weddings, does the groom really give about $9000 total to the bride maids and maid of honor when trying to enter the bride's home?
Currently, I highly doubt that is true because I can't imagine most people in Hong Kong or even Singapore having so much money. Ms.Kawana Ya'll♥ replied: "sounds like a questions for google! Google Hong Kong wedding traditions! Those people have more money than you think!!!"
Rachel-waiting for 11/21/09 replied: "Well I don't know about the groom giving money to the bridal party as a tradition, it might be. Google it!
I do know that at Chinese weddings it's tradition for the guests to give large sums of money to the bridal couple. Then a member of the bridal party goes through all the money and records how much each couple/guest gave to the couple. Then after part of the dinner a certain amount of money is returned to each guest in red envelopes so that it evens the amount of money given by each guest. (So if someone gave $200 more than the average they would have some of that returned)." What is an appropriate amount to give your girlfriend for CNY? A tricky question, been dating for almost a year. I know she takes the red envelope - and the good luck it's supposed to bring - rather seriously, so I would not want to be way off. Not sure if it's a good reference, but she is giving her parents several hundreds USD. casinodog replied: "10''"
fizadora replied: "i think 88 USD wil be sufficient enuff.. 8 USD is too cheap and 888 USD is way tooooo much.. and since '8' is the lucky number for the chinese, do stick to the digit.. ma chinese guy frens usually give their gfs 88 bux.. so i'm advising u frm personal experience.."
pathanChe replied: "Traditionaly, you don't have to give a Red envelope to your girlfriend. So, I'd think this is just a nice gesture. I'd suggest the amount around how much you usually pay for a dinner date. Just give a nice round number to bring luck. My non-Chinese (waiguoren) husband would give me $20 just for fun. (but I don't give hundreds of USD to my parents). Have a happy Chinese New Year!"
